10 March 2026 – Radboud University in Nijmegen has extended its Planon Campus Management Solution licence for the next five years, providing the university with continuity in its facilities and real estate management, and enabling further improvements to campus processes.

Planon has been the central solution for facility management and real estate at Radboud University for over twenty years. The system supports maintenance processes, incident reporting, meeting room and study- and workspace reservations, while also providing a self‑service portal for staff and students, allowing catering services, event bookings, and parking subscriptions all to be managed in one place.

‘This extension is an important next step in the relationship between Planon and Radboud University,’ says Luciën Kamps, General Manager, Planon Europe West. ‘It demonstrates how close collaboration and the drive to continuously improve can lead to a user‑friendly and accessible campus for both students and staff. With this extension, the university gains the stability and flexibility to leverage Planon even more effectively.’

Long‑term collaboration as a solid foundation

In recent years, Radboud University, with the help of Planon, has taken a step‑by‑step approach to professionalising its facility management and real estate processes. By bringing processes together in a single platform, the university gained a clearer overview and was able to further standardise its ways of working.

‘Planon understands our campus and fits the scale and complexity at which we operate,’ says Suzanne Vahl, Division Director Campus & Facilities, Radboud University. ‘Our long‑term relationship and mutual understanding form a strong foundation for continued development.’

Focus on simplicity, data, and self‑service

One of the key reasons for extending the collaboration for another five years is the broad, future-proof design of the Planon Platform. It enables Radboud University to support multiple processes within a single system, with fewer customisations and greater use of standard functionalities. This supports usability, digitalisation and more effective data‑driven decision‑making.

In the coming period, the focus will include expanding the self‑service functionality, enabling staff and students to handle more tasks independently, such as reporting malfunctions and reserving facilities and services. The development of self-service reduces the administrative burden and enhances the overall campus experience.

The university also aims to embed as many processes as possible into Planon to prevent data fragmentation and improve data quality. Outdated custom solutions are being phased out and replaced by future-proof standard functionalities. At the same time, Planon will be used more actively as a data source, providing real-time insights for campus management and strategic decision‑making.

Conscious choice for continuity and improvement

Suzanne Vahl adds: ‘Planon provides us with the foundation to design processes in a simpler and smarter way. For a campus of this size, that is essential. We want to offer improved service to both staff and students while gaining more control over data. This extension makes that possible.’

Yvette Akkermans, Radboud University’s Head of Business Support and Head of Consultancy & Projects, also emphasises the strategic importance of the extension: ‘With this extension, we consciously choose continuity and improvement. Planon is at the heart of our campus operations. In the coming years, we aim to align the system even more closely with our ways of working and our strategic direction.’

Planon looks forward to working with Radboud University in the coming years, to make its digital campus even smarter, more sustainable, and more connected.
