Open University: “Cloud is indeed a cost efficient, good performing, secure and future proof alternative to an in-house installation.”

The Open University (OU) is the UK’s largest educational establishment with almost 180,000 students in the UK and abroad, supported by a network of around 5,000 tutors. To deliver at this scale, the OU operates across a network of centres around the UK, in addition to its main campus in Milton Keynes.

The OU implemented Planon’s IWMS in early 2006 to protect the asset value of its buildings, to ensure the lowest life cycle costs and provide a satisfactory working environment for the University’s 4,000 staff. The solution supports and streamlines processes in areas like maintenance planning, work order allocation, space and asset management, and the logging and servicing of requests via staff self-service. Having a single, unified and integrated system allows the OU’s Estates Department to monitor performance and to increase cost efficiency and customer satisfaction.
