Maarten de Bruin joined Planon in 2011 and leads the professional services organization for the Dutch market, responsible for consultancy and software implementations.
With over 15 years of experience at the intersection of facility management, corporate real estate, and technology, he helps organizations turn digital ambition into working practice.
Since joining Planon in 2011, Maarten has held various roles across the organization, building more than 10 years of international consultancy experience across enterprise IWMS implementations, digital transformation in FM and corporate real estate, and the rise of smart and autonomous buildings. His expertise centers on the point where technology meets the organization: ensuring systems are not just implemented but genuinely adopted, because that is where value creation starts. At the same time, he follows the trends and developments shaping the built environment and helps organizations understand what these mean for their business.
He holds a bachelor's degree (BSc) in international Facility Management & Real Estate and a master's degree (MSc) in Strategy & Innovation, focussing on the adoption of new technologies.
Beyond his role at Planon, Maarten serves as a board member of the IFMA IT Community and sits on the advisory board of Breda University of Applied Sciences, where he helps connect industry practice with the education of the next generation of FM and real estate professionals. He is also the author of the forthcoming book The Acceleration Gap, which explores why organizations struggle to act on what technology makes visible, and what it takes to close that gap. The same theme runs through his publications on smart buildings, data, and AI adoption in facility management. Combining all this with a full-time role and a young family comes down to something his father taught him: there is no such thing as impossible.
Outside of work, Maarten lives in the Netherlands with his wife and two sons. When he's not chasing a toddler around the house, he's chasing watts on his road bike, preferably on long solo rides where the best ideas tend to show up.
