Pierre Guelen

Pierre Guelen, founder and former CEO of Planon, spearheaded the company's global operations and oversaw its strategic direction from its inception. From humble beginnings in 1982, when he established Planon in his attic using an early IBM computer, Pierre has been a driving force in increasing the profile of the facility management and real estate software industry. Pierre stepped down as CEO on 1 June 2024, but remains actively involved in Planon as a strategic advisor.

Pierre began his career as a structural engineering consultant, but soon realized the potential of developing his own software package for maintenance planning, which he called ‘Planon’. Planon quickly grew from a small maintenance consultancy to a market leader in the Netherlands, with customers such as PTT (KPN), Philips, Heineken, Shell, and many universities and municipalities. Pierre subsequently pursued an ambitious international expansion strategy, opening offices around the world and acquiring other software companies along the way, and he is widely acknowledged as a visionary entrepreneur. Under his leadership, Planon has become a leader in the smart building industry, winning multiple awards, including being honored as one of Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies. Pierre was educated at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch and Rotterdam, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering.
