Planon and the Cadac Group make data exchange between BIM and IWMS a reality

23 March 2015 - In partnership with the Cadac Group, Planon is developing a bidirectional add-on between Autodesk Revit and the Planon software. Autodesk Revit is a Building Information Modelling (BIM) software. Data exchange between a BIM and an IWMS can help save money in running and maintaining a building during its entire life cycle. The add-on will enable the exportation of data from the BIM into the Planon software. Subsequently, in the Planon software operational edits can be made, after which the updated information can be imported back into the BIM system.

BIM for Facility and Real Estate managers
A BIM is often only used during the construction phase of a building. However, it has added value during the entire lifecycle of the building including the design, build, maintenance, operation and demolishment phases. Using a BIM throughout the entire lifecycle prevents data loss and saves time, money and effort. The model keeps essential information for Facility and Real Estate managers, such as details about the composition of the building, the properties of specific parts or even planned maintenance activities. The integration prevents the manual input of data and subsequent errors from the BIM into the IWMS, which makes the re-use of information saved in the BIM system during the maintenance and operations phase, a lot easier.

Virtual FM brought to trade show visitors
The ‘Oculus Rift’, a virtual reality headset, is one of the latest developments in the area of BIM. Together with the Cadac Group, Planon offers trade show visitors a unique experience in 2015. With the Oculus Rift visitors can virtually explore a BIM system. Earlier this year, visitors of the Dutch trade show ‘Facilitair 2015’ were able to experience it. Planon will also be exhibiting at the Facilities Show 2015 in London, FM Messe 2015 in Frankfurt and BIM World in Paris showcasing the Oculus Rift.
