Higher Education Experts Define Campus Management Needs in New Report

Research report outlines economic, demographic, and technological shifts that universities face today and provide recommendations on how to meet these changes.

November 12, 2019 – Planon Corporation, the leading, global provider of integrated software solutions to enhance real estate and facility management processes, announced today the release of a new, comprehensive research report that defines the modern management needs of the campus of the future.

In early 2019, higher education experts across the United States joined Planon’s Blue Ribbon Panel, convened by Planon North America President Fred Guelen to first research trends and changes affecting the higher education landscape in North America, and to define the users and stakeholders of a campus of the future, including students, staff, faculty, visitors, and the surrounding community. From there, the panel focused on defining the requirements of a campus management system that would best support the needs and expectations of current and future users of the campus.

‘It has become increasingly important for construction, IT, facilities management and real estate professionals within higher education to recognise the importance of a comprehensive campus management system that will allow them to successfully manage the changing needs of their campus users,’ said Larry Barkley of Barkley Consulting Group, who served as Chairman of the Planon Blue Ribbon Panel. ‘Funding for facilities management isn’t getting any easier, but this report offers recommendations and highlights areas of focus that may aid universities in successfully moving towards building a sustainable campus of the future.’

The Planon Blue Ribbon Panel members include Chairman Larry Barkley, Barkley Consulting Group; Nathan Moore, Michigan State University; Gretchen Tucker, University of Kentucky; Pat Turnbull, Board of Advisors, Stuart School of Business at Illinois Institute of Technology; Tony Malagrino, California State University Long Beach; and Josef Asteinza, New York University Langone Health. The Planon Blue Ribbon Panel presented its research at the 2019 Planon User Conference in Chicago, Illinois in June and at the Campus Facility Management Technology Association (CFTA) conference in Austin, Texas in July.
